Gould Cottage Update – 5/13

The transformation of Gould Cottage is underway!  This past Saturday concluded the second of two official work days on the property since the April 30 closing.  Work has focused on site preparation and demolition.

Exteriorly, large scale pruning and clean up have greatly improved curb appeal.  The building has been pressure washed, and a temporary sign for The Habersham School has been placed.  Neglected azaleas and trees on the property and around the perimeter of the building have been trimmed back and cuttings hauled off.  Most roof sections, both flat and sloping, have been cleared of all fallen leaves and other debris from the many large trees on the grounds.

Meanwhile, two 30-yard dumpsters (very large) have been filled with debris from inside the building as well.  The demolition team has begun to remove interior walls so that rooms can be reconfigured for optimum use.  Paint preparation has also begun, and other work has been accomplished to prepare the building for future sub-contractors.

There is still a significant amount of work to be done by parent volunteers to prepare Gould Cottage for The Habersham School’s second year.  We will remain in an all-hands-on-deck mode throughout the summer.  We are not in need of experts; we are in need of workers!  Please come!  Next work day: Saturday, May 18.

Susan: This is a great blessing unfolding. History is being made. I hope someone is taking lots of pictures! Thanks for keeping us up to date. I look forward to getting down in less than two weeks and seeing the transformation that is taking place. Blessings, Bobby Welch
