The President is appointed by the Board to carry out the vision of Habersham and is the chief administrator of external operations: finance, facilities, marketing, and community development. The Head of School serves under the President and is the chief administrator of internal operations: faculty, academics, admissions, and programming. The Head of School is responsible for carrying out the Habersham mission. All internal employees of the school are responsible to the Head of School for the performance of their duties.
Mr. Chip Welch – President
B.A. History and Religion, Mercer University
M.Div., Reformed Theological Seminary
During his 6 years of work with college students at Oglethorpe University (Atlanta) and Millsaps College (Jackson), Chip developed a great love for preparing students to face life’s complex questions. In recent years this has translated into a commitment to educating students in the classical Christian tradition. He is an experienced administrator, educator, and consultant who has written over 9 courses of study for classical Christian education. Being born and raised in Savannah, he carries a deep commitment to this community and is passionate about building The Habersham School into an integral and positive force for our beloved city.
Mrs. Angie Copetillo – Head of School
B.S. Journalism, University of Georgia; Minor in Philosophy, University of Arizona
Angie has worked as a principal and taught English, history, and logic for the last 10 years in a variety of classical school settings. In 2004, desiring a classical education for her children, she left law school to found Auburn Classical Academy. She discovered her love for teaching after a career in communication and business. Out of college, Angie served as a Congressional press intern and newspaper editor, and later as the communications director for the Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau and a business analyst for an international legal consulting firm. She continues to serve as an advisor at ACA and in her family’s restaurant business. She has four boys and a girl and loves being a wife and mom. Beyond reading and writing, she enjoys tennis and cooking and is an avid college sports fan. As a Savannah native, Angie is thrilled to return to Savannah sharing her passion for Christ-centered, classical education.
Mrs. Leslie Waller – Grammar & Logic School Dean
B.A. Elementary Education, Stetson University
Leslie grew up in Florida and graduated from Stetson University with a Bachelor of Arts i, Elementary Education and Early Childhood. She is married to Brad, and they have three children: Emily, a college junior; Chase, a college sophomore; and Allie, a junior at Habersham. In her free time, Leslie loves to read and travel.
Mr. Jason Mehl – Director of Athletics
B.A. Journalism with Minor in English, Toccoa Falls College
M.F.A Creative Writing, Columbia College
Jason brings with him 12 years of Christian higher education experience, both as an athletic director and professor at Toccoa Falls College and overseas at Uganda Christian University. He coached the UCU Men’s and Women’s basketball teams for four seasons, winning two East Africa University Game championships, coached the Uganda National Team in three international tournaments, and served as an executive member of the Uganda Basketball Federation. He and his wife Louise are both joining the Habersham team, and their son and daughter will attend the Grammar School.
Mr. Chaston Hart – Director of Business and Admissions
B.A., Interdisciplinary Studies, Covenant College
Chaston was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia and is a graduate of Savannah Christian Prep. It wasn’t until his college years that he left his hometown to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree from Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. While at Covenant, he was also given the opportunity to continue his youthful pastime and play collegiate baseball for the Scots. On Saturdays, you can find Chaston right up the road in Statesboro, Georgia cheering on his beloved Georgia Southern Eagles. It is with great joy and excitement that he is able to return home to his family and begin his career at The Habersham School.
Mrs. Kathy Delk – Gould Cottage Assistant
B.S. Business Administration with Minor in French, Salisbury State University
Born in Richmond, VA, Kathy moved to Georgia after graduating high school. She attended Salisbury State University in Salisbury, MD, where she received a BS in Business Administration and a minor in French. She has taught 4th grade in Georgia for 8 years. She also uses her organizational skills and attention to detail to help keep the Grammar School running smoothly! Kathy has been married to Kenny for 17 years, and they have two daughters (6th & 11th grades) attending The Habersham School.
Mrs. Louise Mehl – Gould Cottage Administrative Assistant
Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Louise met her husband Jason while working for a nonprofit organization in Uganda. After living and working in Uganda for three years, they returned to the US. They are both employed at The Habersham School, and their two children, Lily and Moses, are students in the Grammar School. Louise has a wide range of experience in management and clerical work. She enjoys spending time with her children, exercising, and spending time with friends.
