Restoring the Rich Roots of the Academic Tradition

For 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, 36 weeks a year, and a minimum of 13 years, our children are in school. It is perhaps the most formative experience they will encounter, if for no other reason than the amount of time given to it. Consequently, and historically, school is more than simply a practical avenue to college entry and future employment. As G.K. Chesterton wrote, education is “the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.”  If this is the case, then what kind of societal soul are we passing on to our children?

At The Habersham School, we are honored and privileged to revive an academic tradition characterized by an intentionality in all phases that produces a truly unique educational experience for Savannah. This uniqueness is of such rich import that it is difficult to describe in few words. We identify ourselves as Classical and Christian, however these terms can easily seem inaccessible (Classical) and watered-down (Christian). So when our leadership team gathered for the first time, we decided the following words and phrases best describe the soul of The Habersham School:

“It is now very difficult for the artist to speak the language of the theologian or the scientist the language of either. But the attempt must be made; and there are signs everywhere that the human mind is once more beginning to move toward a synthesis of experience.” – Dorothy L. Sayers

Intentional. Beginning with the end in mind. Experiencing the best education at the best value. Historically proven. Educating the whole child. Graduating free and responsible citizens. Character. Instilling a desire to learn. Serving God’s kingdom. Teaching how to learn. Equipping children to thrive. Joyful discovery. Creating a purposeful culture. Family-focused. Developing an academic work ethic. Changing culture for Christ.

These are just a few of the words which help to describe our mission and vision at The Habersham School. We are glad you have visited and hope you will explore the pages here to learn more about us. We also welcome you to visit us at our Patriot Previews, Open Houses, or personally scheduled meetings. Classes for The Habersham School are now in session, and we are excited to begin the process of building a family-centered educational community that seeks to restore the rich roots of the academic tradition in our society.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Angie Copetillo Principal
