House System

The House System provides students with rich traditions and hands-on leadership opportunities that foster friendship, service, and hospitality. More than a character-building program, the House System is the embodiment of community at The Habersham School. Beyond social cliques and grade level confines, it unites students of all kinds – artists and scientists, thinkers and doers, athletes and thespians – granting students from throughout the school the opportunity to work alongside one another.

Students from every grade level are sorted into one of four houses: House of Washington, House of Pulaski, House of Madison, and House of Lafayette. Upper School students who apply and interview for positions each spring are selected as House leaders. In these positions, students are trained and mentored alongside faculty advisors as all students compete to earn the coveted House Cup. Students lead their fellow House members through three key events: Feast Day in November, the Sidewalk Arts Festival in March, and House Olympics in May.

Through the process, leaders and House members work as a team, creatively integrate and execute ideas, practice rhetorical skills, and develop leadership capabilities as they independently direct full-scale school events. More importantly, students daily live out the mission as they are learning valuable lessons about how to engage and shape the people, community, and culture in which they live.
