As a Classical School, we understand that the goal of education in ancient and medieval times was to teach children how to think and learn for themselves. They were given the tools of learning and then taught how to apply those tools of learning to any subject they encountered. We should all aspire for the same goal – that we can explore, engage, discuss, and even debate various topics that are near and dear to us.
Sadly, today’s culture offers what feels like an endless list of such topics – education, parenting, ethics, gender dysphoria, technology, social media, politics, racial bias, and many other issues.
At The Habersham School, we invite you to explore some of these important and often controversial topics through a monthly gathering we’re calling, Consider This… (formerly titled Coffee and Classics).
Thoughtful, rich discussion, consideration of different viewpoints, and lively discourse are the cornerstones of what we seek to immerse our Rhetoric (Upper School) students in on a daily basis at Habersham. Our goal with Consider This… is to foster the same opportunities for our parents along with a side of coffee and donuts, of course!
Unpacking and discovering some of the thornier issues of our times will not likely end in our group reaching a consensus. As we use Scripture as our lens and apply its Truths as our unwavering foundation, we will surely draw closer to God and walk away with understanding and compassion for one another. We are excited to experience the depth that Consider This… may bring to our Covenantal community. The first iteration of Consider This… will take place on Tuesday morning, September 12 from 8:10 AM until 9:10 AM. Please join us in Durham Hall!
