8/14/20 — The school is revising its re-opening plan by requiring students in grades 1st through 4th to wear face coverings while entering and exiting the building, and during indoor breaks in the hallways. We believe that it’s in the best interest of the school, its students, and Habersham families that our requirement to wear face coverings remain as consistent with the Chatham County Commission’s mandate which extends until September 30. We understand that this issue has been divisive in our culture, and the school makes this recommendation based on scientific information, legal considerations, and the well-being of our community.  If you have a medical or related concern about your child wearing a face covering, please contact Max Belz at mbelz@thehabershamschool.org.

Messages from our Leadership
6.26.20
Your Habersham leaders have been working diligently to prepare for your return to campus in August! Our administrators, faculty and staff gathered yesterday and today for our annual time of professional development, in anticipation of our full return for the Fall Semester, health conditions and state regulations permitting. The health and safety of you and your students are one of our primary focuses as we plan to resume the effective delivery of high-quality, mission-centered instruction.

To that end, we have created and met with a volunteer task force of health professionals to help guide our administrative team as we solidify plans. On the task force are:

  • Dr. Byron Colley of Dentistry for Children, a Habersham Board member who also serves on Governor Kemp’s advisory team for re-opening Savannah
  • Dr. Lourens J. Willekes, II, MD, board-certified cardiac surgeon with Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery at Memorial Health
  • Jennifer Willekes, an experienced healthcare compliance consultant and former long-time health compliance officer with Barnabas Health and Spectrum Health

Our final task force meeting is this next week, after which we will finalize our re-opening plan,  submit it to our board, and share with our families immediately following.
