The discipline of Visual Art seeks to shape students who cultivate the imagination through the observation of beauty. Students pursue this through refining the coordination of eye and hand, and imagination. The discipline of drawing is the focus of study for our students, balancing two-dimensional design and color. Each study has an emphasis on either conceptual drawing from the imagination or observational drawing from nature. Additionally through the study of historical masterpieces students learn to identify excellence in art and design and to articulate its character verbally and visually. All studies are meant to lead students toward more acute perception and articulation of truth as seen in the created order. As students increase in skill, courses introduce them to professional practices (art shows, competitions) and build portfolios centered on seeing design and nature.
