With immense excitement and a heart full of anticipation, I welcome you to the start of a new school year at The Habersham School. As we gather to embark on this journey together, it’s my privilege to share with you the profound essence that defines our institution and sets the tone for the year ahead.
As we witness new faces, new spaces, and a renewed energy within our campus, it’s important to recognize that the heart of our school lies in something far more profound than what meets the eye. In July, our Executive Leadership Team had a summer retreat where we took the opportunity to propose, discuss, and consider our distinctives. What makes The Habersham School special? How do we stand out from all the rest? We came up with a number of good answers, but our goal was to boil it down to four to five words that would capture the essence of our school and its mission.
- Christian: Our foundation is unwavering – rooted in the core beliefs of the Christian faith. It’s our firm commitment to these timeless principles that nurtures a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ, guiding our journey as a community.
- Covenantal: We aren’t just a school; we are a family bound by a shared covenant, centered around Christ. This covenant defines the basis, the conditions, and the promises of the relationships we build within our close-knit community.
- Classical: Education is about more than textbooks and tests; it’s about nurturing inquisitive minds. Our classical approach empowers students to question, explore, and engage critically with the world, all while embracing the unchanging truths of Christ.
- Restorative: In a world that often loses sight of our inherent divine image, we embark on a mission of restoration. Our mission is Partnering with God as His servants in seeking the restoration of His image in our students through education.
- Transformative: Our vision goes beyond education; it’s about transformation. Through education, relationships, and experiences, we aim to inspire profound change in the lives of our students, as they are transformed more and more to the image of Christ.
A Greenhouse of Growth: An Analogy That Resonates
Christian education can sometimes be thought of as providing a protective bubble, shielding our children from the world’s complexities. However, the reality is that they’re exposed to myriad influences through technology, media, and societal pressures. Our approach isn’t to isolate, but to create a nurturing greenhouse.
Imagine our school as this greenhouse – a place where saplings grow under careful guidance. Here, they develop deep roots, nourished by the wisdom and love of Christ. Just as mighty oaks stand tall and strong after maturing in the shelter of a greenhouse, we aim to nurture students who can withstand life’s challenges with unwavering strength and grace.
Rooted in Christ: Our Year’s Theme
Our theme for this year is “Rooted in Christ,” inspired by Ephesians 3:14-19. This theme encapsulates our earnest desire to see every member of our Habersham family firmly rooted in Christ, enabling them to grasp the breadth, depth, and height of His affection, filling their hearts with His fullness.
As parents, your role in this journey is pivotal. Just as roots need nurturing to grow deep and strong, your support, involvement, and prayers will help your children thrive in this nurturing environment. Together, as a united community, we can exemplify the transformative power of faith and education.
Join Us in This Journey
As we embark on this new academic year, I encourage you to join us in nurturing these values in your children’s lives. Let’s work hand in hand, creating a foundation of faith, knowledge, and love that will shape their futures and equip them to navigate the challenges ahead.
May our Habersham community be a testament to what it means to be truly “Rooted in Christ.” Let’s inspire others with our unwavering faith, boundless love, and a joy that transcends all.
