SAVANNAH, GA, 4/12/24 – The Habersham School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. John Breckenridge as the next Principal, starting in the summer of 2024.
Mr. Breckenridge comes to The Habersham School for his thirtieth year in education and has enjoyed a diverse and varied career both in the classroom and in Christian school administration. His first eight years were spent in history classrooms in middle and high schools in both Chatham and Effingham County. John’s journey in Classical Christian education began as a young father when he realized that he wanted his children to receive the Classical education he lacked as a child. It was in this study and reflection that he became convinced of its benefit for families that wanted excellence and to also teach to the strengths and interests of the child.
Called first as a board member and later as the school’s first headmaster, John served at Veritas Academy here in Savannah from 2003-2008. His family then took a ten-year detour from the South and sojourned in Portland, Oregon where John served as the headmaster at St. Stephen’s Academy, another Classical Christian school, from 2008-2018. Sensing a call home to Savannah, the Breckenridges returned in 2018 where John has since been a history teacher at Effingham County High School.
John and Tiffany are enjoying their thirtieth year of marriage together and during that time have raised four children and also now have two precious grandchildren. John is a graduate of Calvary Baptist Day School (1988), The University of Georgia (BSED-1994), Armstrong State University (MEd-1998), and is pursuing his doctorate at Liberty University (History PhD-2026).
When asked why he decided to join The Habersham School as its newest Principal, John answered, “I believe God has called me to be about the business of establishing Classical and Christian education in Savannah, Georgia. I love this place, and ever since I met the leadership at the school I have believed that I was being drawn to serve this school: her families, faculty and students, and help Habersham meet its fullest potential. I cannot wait to get started!”
